Civil Ceremonies

Essex County Council granted approval for the Three Rivers Golf and Country Club to be used as a venue for the solemnisation of Civil Marriages under the Marriage Act 1994, Marriages (Approved Premises) Regulations 1995 on 7th February 2003. Several rooms have been licensed for civil ceremonies catering for small parties of 20 guests up to 120 for larger weddings.

Three Rivers Golf & Country Club Wedding Co-ordinators are there to ensure that each wedding is tailored to your individual needs and will be pleased to offer help and advice. Should you decide to use Three Rivers as the venue for your civil marriage, please make a provisional booking with us for the required date, this will then be held for 7 days.

At each marriage ceremony a Superintendent Registrar and Registrar must be in attendance. The Registrars who will attend to conduct and register the marriage ceremony need to be booked by telephoning Chelmsford Register Office (17, Market Road, Chelmsford. CM1 1GF) on 01245 430700, although this can only be done one year in advance.

The bride and groom must each give Notice of Marriage in the Registration District in which they live; notice cannot be given more than one year in advance or later than 15 days before the date of the marriage.

In addition, you are advised that civil marriage ceremonies must contain no religious content. Any readings, words or performance prior to or during any part of the ceremony must be secular and require approval in advance from the Superintendent Registrar at Chelmsford Register Office.
